Some years ago a came across a post, it was a post from Tiktok. A very sweet Jewish lady who wished Tiktok " Shabbat Shalom". What shock me most about this post were the comments, hurtful and antisemitic.

From that  time I started to follow Lily Ebert and later bought her book " Lily's Promis " a gift to us and a messaged to the world. Lily together with her great grandson  Dov met with many people, like former PM Boris Johnson in Dowing Street. At age ninety- six  Lily found herself making headlines around the world.

Lily promised herself that if she survived Auschwitz she would tell the world the truth about the camps.

In her book " Lily's Promis " she writes about her happy childhood in Hungary, the death of her mother and little brother Bela and her sister Bertha on arrival in Auschwitz in 1944. She was determind to keep her two other sisters safe. In her book she describes the dehumanizing in de camp and how small acts of defiance gave her strengh. Llily and their sisters became slave labour in a munition factory and faced a death march which they barely survived.

Lily Ebert spent Yom Kippur 1944 in Auschwitz and made herself a promise, that if she would survive Auschwitz, she would do something that would make a change, as she said " I had to make sure that nothing like this could ever happen again to anybody. So I promised myself I would tell the world what had happened. Not just to me, but to all the people who could not tell their stories.”

May the memory of Lily Ebert be a blessing and may her light continue to shine in her memory 🌟
